Two phosphoramidate siloxanes named as DCTES and DPTES with different phosphorus oxidation state were synthesized and their effect on the flame retardancy of PA6 and PET microfiber synthetic leather (PA/MSL, PET/MSL) was investigated via sol-gel surface treatment. It was found that these sol-gel coatings had more efficient towards PET/MSL with higher LOI values than PA/MSL. Moreover, DCTES with high oxidation state significantly decreased the thermal decomposition temperature of MSL and causing more molten-dripping problem with lower LOI value, although its coated MSLs can survive in the vertical flammability test and remained more residues at high temperature.

In 2022, there were over 374,000 house fires in the US, so here are five precautions you should take to ensure your home is more fireproof. 1. Paint A cheap method to slow down fire is using fire-retardant paint, which acts as a protective coating over your walls. 2. Sprays Fire-retardant fabric spray can make household furniture like couches, carpets and curtains a little harder to burn. 3. Fire-Resistant Insulation The typical fiberglass insulation is usually backed by paper, which is indeed flammable. Instead, you should opt for a fireproof material like mineral wool. 4. Spark Management Fires often spread from sparks or embers blowing through your home, so fit a chimney cap and an ember-resistant vent. 5. Roof Roofing materials such as clay, concrete, slate and metal roofs are the most fire-resistant.

However, high prices and technological efficiencies in both flame retardants and lead-acid batteries has meant that demand steadily declined. Estimates suggest antimony’s use as a flame retardant now accounts for approximately half of global demand.

If you live on an acreage, there\'s a constant risk that your home may be consumed by a brush fire. That\'s where the Blaze Barrier comes in, as it forms a flame-activated fire-retardant boundary line around the user\'s house. Ordinarily, in order to protect a home from an advancing brush fire, firefighters have to dig a dry-vegetation-free trench around the dwelling. Not only does this require a lot of physical effort, it also takes up time that could be spent fighting the fire on other fronts. Described as being "the world\'s first fire-line-in-a-box," the Blaze Barrier is intended to be a user-deployed alternative to such trenches. It was created by Washington-state-based product designer/engineer Jacob Schuler, and is currently the subject of a Kickstarter campaign.

Wood is becoming increasingly popular again due to an increased environmental awareness. However, wood generally needs protection from a number of external influences such as moisture, UV, stains, and also fire. The latter is a particular challenge for building materials because once ignited, untreated wood usually burns down completely without the need for a continuous external heat supply. We have recently developed a sustainable coating based on polymerised chitosan itaconate, which protects wood against moisture, UV, and stains. Free-standing chitosan itaconate films were now found to be non-flammable and do not melt when exposed to fire.
